Set up fee types

Who this is for

College Administrator

Requires the fee screens enabled for your college

Fee types are the named kinds of charge your college uses: a standard rate, a reduced rate, a lab fee. You define the list once, and staff pick from it when they put an amount on a course section or a term. Read on to add a fee type, rename one, and remove one.

Steps

  1. Open your college profile and select Course Fee Types. Colleges that charge by term use Term Fee Types; the screens work the same way.
  2. Select Add.
  3. Type the name in Description, then select Create. This is the name staff choose from when pricing a section, so keep it recognizable.
  4. To rename a type, select its name in the list, edit Description, then select Update.

Warning: renaming a fee type does not rename it on sections that are already priced. Those fees keep the old name, so the list and the sections disagree until you re-pick the type on each one.

  5. To remove a type, select Delete beside it and confirm.

Warning: deleting a fee type does not remove or stop the fees already using it. Those sections keep charging their amount under the deleted name, and the type just stops being selectable.

What success looks like

The type appears in the list, and it is available in the Fee Type menu the next time someone adds a fee to a section or a term.

If this doesn't work

  • Course Fee Types is not in your college profile menu. The fee screens are enabled per college, and the course and term screens are enabled separately, so having one does not mean you have the other. submit a request to the Help Desk to have them turned on.
  • A section shows a fee type that is not in your list. The type was renamed or deleted after that section was priced. Open the section's fee and pick a current type to bring them back in step.
  • The name is rejected as already taken. Fee type names are unique per college, and the list is shared across every course. Check for the existing one rather than adding a variant spelling.
