Step-by-step help for setting up and running dual enrollment.

Set up an academic term

Who this is for

College Administrator

Terms are the calendar everything else in DualEnroll hangs off: sections, registrations and reports are all organized by term. You create a term with its dates and registration window before any course section can be offered in it. For what a term controls once it exists, see Understanding academic terms.

Before you start

You need a college role that can manage terms; if you can see College Admin → Academic Terms, you have it. Terms must exist before registration can begin, so set up the next cycle's terms early.

Adding a term

  1. Go to College Admin → Academic Terms and select Add.
  2. Enter the DESCRIPTION. This is the name students and staff see in every term list, such as Fall 2026.
  3. Enter the INTERNAL CODE if your SIS (student information system) uses a code for the term, so imports and integrations can match it.
  4. Pick the term's start and end dates.
  5. Save the term. The other settings on the form (visibility checkboxes, custom date fields, term categories) can be set now or added later.

Starting from a copy instead

To set up a new cycle from last year's term, open the old term and select Clone. The copy carries the old term's settings, custom date fields and workflow selections; give it its new name and dates before saving, and review the copied date fields, which still hold last year's dates.

Editing a term

Click the term's name in the Academic Terms list, make your changes, and save.

What success looks like

The term appears in the Academic Terms list with its dates, and shows up in term dropdowns across the product.

If this doesn't work

  • Saving fails because the name is already taken: term names are unique within your college. Pick a distinct DESCRIPTION, or find and edit the existing term instead.
