Step-by-step help for setting up and running dual enrollment.

Stop imports from overwriting a course section

Who this is for

College Administrator (College Super Admin, or a college-system account)

Requires the automatic course section import

If your college imports course sections from its SIS, the import will overwrite changes you make by hand the next time it runs. Locking a section tells the import to leave that section alone, so your edits survive.

Before you start

  • Your college's course sections are brought in from your Student Information System (SIS) by an import that runs nightly and can also be run on demand. If your college does not use that import, nothing on this page applies.
  • You need the College Super Admin role at your college, or an account attached to a college system, which carries the same permission across every college in that system. Other staff can see whether a section is locked, but cannot change it.
  • The section has to exist already. You lock a saved section, not one you are in the middle of creating.

Note: Locking a section does not stop your own team editing it. It only stops the import from changing it. Everyone at your college who could edit the section before can still edit it.

Steps

  1. Go to Courses and open the course that contains the section.
  2. Click Course Sections, then open the section you want to protect.
  3. Click Edit.
  4. In the Course Options panel down the right-hand side, find Lock From Imports. It sits below Course Fees and Action Dates.
  5. Click the toggle. The section is locked straight away. There is no need to save the section.

What success looks like

The toggle switches to its locked state immediately. Anyone else who opens the section sees a Locked badge where the toggle would be if they cannot change it.

From then on, the import skips that section entirely. Its details, meeting times, fees, action dates and categories all stay as your team left them.

Unlocking a section

Click the same toggle again.

Warning: unlocking exposes the section to the next import. The import will replace your team's changes with whatever your SIS holds, and there is no record of what was replaced and no way to undo it. If you need to keep anything you entered by hand, write it down first.

If this doesn't work

  • You cannot see a Lock From Imports toggle, only the words Locked or Unlocked. Your account does not have permission to change the lock. You are seeing the section's current state instead. Ask a College Super Admin at your college, or anyone whose account covers your whole college system, to make the change.
  • You cannot see the panel at all. Check that you clicked Edit on a section that has already been saved. The panel does not appear while you are creating a new section.
  • Your changes were still overwritten. Check when the section was locked. Locking protects a section from the next import onward. It cannot recover anything an earlier import already replaced. Re-enter the data now that the section is locked, and it will stay.
  • The section's meeting days or times changed even though it was locked. Everything else stayed as you left it. This is not expected. Please contact the Help Desk and say which section it was, so we can look at how your college's import is configured.
  • A section you did not create appeared after an import. Locking protects sections that already exist. The import still creates sections that are new to DualEnroll, and a new section arrives unlocked. Lock it if you intend to change it by hand.
  • Someone on your team changed a locked section. That is how it is meant to work. The lock only applies to the import.

If a locked section is still being changed by the import, contact the Help Desk with the course and section number and roughly when the change appeared.
