Step-by-step help for setting up and running dual enrollment.

Create and apply course categories

Who this is for

College Administrator

Course categories group your courses into sets students recognize, such as Gen Ed or CTE. You create each category once, then apply it to as many courses as you like, and it becomes available anywhere the catalog is filtered. For where categories sit in the catalog, see Understanding courses and sections.

Before you start

No setup is needed. A category does nothing on its own: it groups courses so other parts of the product can pick them out, most visibly the student course filter.

Steps

  1. Click the Admin tab, then Course Categories.
  2. Click ADD and name the category.
  3. Apply it to courses: on the Courses tab, open a course, tick the category under Course Categories, and click UPDATE. Your course import can also assign categories as courses arrive.
  4. To let students filter by it, tick Include in By Course Category filter on the category's edit form: see Turn on the Course Finder category filter.

What success looks like

The category appears in the Course Categories list, the courses you ticked carry it, and, if you included it, students see it as a Course Finder filter.

If this doesn't work

  • Students do not see the category: it has not been included in the By Course Category filter, or no course carrying it has a section students can register for. The filter article above covers both.
