Step-by-step help for setting up and running dual enrollment.

Add or clone a course section

Who this is for

College Administrator

A course only becomes registrable once it has sections, and most courses need several that differ only in meeting time or instructor. You can build a section from scratch, or clone an existing one and change the few fields that differ.

For how courses and sections fit together, see Understanding courses and sections. If the course itself does not exist yet, see Add a course by hand.

Before you start

The course must already exist, and so must the term the section runs in (see Understanding academic terms). You need the section number your SIS (student information system) uses, so registrations match up later.

Steps

  1. Click the Courses tab, then click the course's name.
  2. Choose Course Sections from the menu on the right.
  3. Click ADD to start from scratch, or open an existing section and click CLONE to copy most of its details into a new section. A clone asks you to pick the term.
  4. Fill in the required fields: Section Number and Term.
  5. Fill in the schedule: Instructor and Instructor Type (high school or college), Location, Campus for taught-at-college sections, Start and End dates, and the meetings (format, building, room, days and times).
  6. Set who can register: Allow Registration makes the section available; Allow High Schools left blank shows it to every high school, or check specific schools to restrict it; Student Capacity with Check Capacity stops registrations once the section is full; Wish List Only makes it a placeholder students can register for before the real sections exist.
  7. Click CREATE.

What success looks like

The section appears in the course's section list, and students at allowed high schools can find it in the Course Finder once Allow Registration is on.

If this doesn't work

  • Students cannot see the section: check that Allow Registration is on, the student's high school is allowed (or the list is blank), the term is visible to students, and the section is not full with Check Capacity on.
  • Your edits reverted overnight: the course import overwrote them. Lock the section first: see Stop imports from overwriting a course section.
  • The section will not delete: a section with registrations attached cannot be deleted. Uncheck Allow Registration instead to stop new registrations.
