Who this is for
College Administrator
Most courses reach your catalog through the course import, but sometimes one is missing, or you need something the import will never carry. You can create a course directly on the Courses tab and add sections to it straight away. For how courses and sections fit together, see Understanding courses and sections.
Before you start
Courses usually arrive automatically, from your SIS (student information system) import, a file upload or your college's own software. Add a course by hand only for the exceptions: a missed course or a late addition. You need the course's title, number and credit count.
Steps
- Click the Courses tab.
- Click ADD in the upper right.
- Fill in the required fields: COURSE TITLE, COURSE NUMBER and CREDITS.
- Fill in any of the optional fields that apply: REQUISITES, DESCRIPTION, the course's Course Categories, and COURSE PROGRAMS if the course belongs to one or more programs. Tick IGNORE FOR CA if the course should stay out of instructor credentialing.
- Click CREATE.
What success looks like
The course appears in the Courses list under its number and title.
Note: A new course has no sections yet, and students cannot find a course without a section they could register for. Create its sections next: see Add or clone a course section.
If this doesn't work
- The course saved, but students cannot find it: it has no section available for registration yet. Create a section, and make sure Allow Registration is checked on it.
