Who this is for
College Administrator
Requires permission to complete workflows
Sometimes an enrollment finishes outside DualEnroll, entered straight into your SIS or handled on paper, and the workflow is left running with nothing to do. Force completing it marks the workflow done without running the remaining steps. It cannot be undone, so use Abandon if the registration might still continue.
Before you start
- Your college account needs permission to complete workflows. Most college administrator roles have it, and some advisor, counseling, and dean roles do too, but not every college role does. This option is not available to high school staff or students.
- The workflow must still be active. You cannot complete a workflow that is already complete or has been abandoned.
- The option only appears on workflow types that have a completion step defined, and only while such a step is actually on the workflow. That is one reason it is present on some workflows and absent on others.
- A Workflow Action Policy can also block completing, even when everything above is true. When one does, the option appears disabled and no reason is shown beside it. See Why is Force Complete greyed out?.
Steps
Warning: completing a workflow is permanent and cannot be undone. Every step still active is stopped and the workflow is marked complete. If you might need the registration to carry on, or you are not sure, use Abandon instead, which can be reversed.
- On the Registrations list, find the student's registration and click the three-dot (⋯) menu on its row.
- Choose Force Complete.
If the option is greyed out or missing, see Why is Force Complete greyed out?. - The Force Complete Workflow confirmation page opens, showing the workflow name and type.
- Enter a Reason (required, up to 200 characters) explaining why you are completing the workflow. The confirm button stays disabled until you enter a reason.
- Click Complete Workflow, then confirm again when your browser asks Are you sure? This action cannot be undone.
What success looks like
You will see a message that workflow completion has been queued. It finishes in the background rather than the instant you confirm, so the workflow may still look active for a moment. Refresh before trying again.
Once it completes, the workflow shows as Complete and any steps that were still open are closed. The registration history records your name and the time. The reason you entered is stored with the workflow but does not currently appear in the registration history, so keep your own note of it if your college needs one.
If this doesn't work
- The option is greyed out or missing. Either a Workflow Action Policy is blocking it, or this workflow has no completion step on it. See Why is Force Complete greyed out?.
- You see "This workflow cannot be completed." or "This workflow is not active." The workflow changed between opening the menu and confirming, most often because it finished or was abandoned. Reload the registration to see its current state.
- Nothing seems to have happened. Because completion is queued, a slow queue looks like a failed action. Refresh before trying again. Completing twice is not harmful, but it will not speed it up.
