Step-by-step help for setting up and running dual enrollment.

Turn on the Course Finder category filter

Who this is for

College Administrator

Students browsing the Course Finder can narrow it by course category, but only for the categories you choose to expose. Turning the filter on lets you pick which of your categories students see, so the list stays short and meaningful.

Before you start

  • You need a College Administrator account.
  • Your college has at least one Course Category configured.
  • Your college uses the standard Course Finder (not a fully custom Course Finder theme).

Steps

  1. Go to your Course Categories admin list. The Course finder column shows a check for categories already included in the filter and an empty box for those that aren't.
  2. Click into the category you want students to be able to filter by to open its edit page.
  3. Check Include in By Course Category filter and save.
  4. Repeat for each category you want to appear in the filter. Categories you use only for internal classification can be left unchecked so students never see them.
  5. Open the Course Finder. A BY COURSE CATEGORY panel now appears in the sidebar, listing the categories you included by their display name.

What success looks like

Students and anyone helping them see the BY COURSE CATEGORY filter in the Course Finder sidebar. Selecting one or more categories narrows the course list to courses that match any of the selected categories, and the filter works alongside the other Course Finder filters. Your changes take effect right away, with no re-import or waiting period. Courses that have no category, or only categories you didn't include, still appear normally.

Note: To hide the filter without unchecking your categories, turn on the Hide the course filter 'By Course Category' option in the Course Finder section of your local options.

If this doesn't work

The filter appears only once at least one category is included and the hide option is off.

  • No categories are included yet. Every category starts out excluded, and the filter appears as soon as you include one (step 3 above).
  • The filter is switched off by a setting. The Hide the course filter 'By Course Category' option described above hides the filter even when categories are included. Turn that option off.
  • You clicked the check icon on the list page and nothing changed. The check icon in the Course finder column is an indicator, not a button. Change inclusion on the category's own edit page.

Contact the DualEnroll Help Desk with the affected college and the categories you expected to see.
